Garda, municipality of Lake Garda

Garda, the municipality after which Italy’s largest lake is named, is situated in the centre of the gulf of the same name and includes the territory of Punta San Vigilio, creating a small peninsula.

In the past it was known by the name ‘Benàcus‘ or ‘Benaco and is historically famous for its Rocca, on which it is still possible to admire breathtaking views and walk or cycle along paths.

Curiosity: The term 'Garda' is an evolution of the Longobard term 'Warda', i.e. guard, referring to the castle site behind the village.
