Lake Garda is one of the most fascinating places in northern Italy and holidays in this area are also perfect for those travelling with children, thanks to the many activities you can do with them.
Here are some of our suggestions for an unforgettable holiday with children on Lake Garda.
Lake Garda, attractions for children
Lake Garda is an area rich in parks, with different characteristics, where children (but also adults) can enjoy unique experiences in places with a magical atmosphere, full of adrenaline and lots of fun.
1. Amusement, water and adventure parks
When one thinks of Lake Garda, the first amusement park that comes to mind is Gardaland, the most famous in Italy, located in Castelnuovo del Garda.
Here, children and adults alike can enjoy the magical and extraordinary atmosphere that always amazes those who visit it, and they can also visit the adjacent Sea Life Aquarium, an interactive aquarium housing numerous species of fish and other inhabitants of the marine world and Lake Garda.
Lazise, on the other hand, is home to Movieland, a theme park dedicated to cinema, and Caneva World, a water park where you can cool off and have fun on hot summer days.
Other water parks worth visiting in the summer season if you are on holiday with children on Lake Garda are: Rio Valli in Cavaion Veronese, Le Ninfee del Garda in Desenzano and the Cavour Water Park, located in Valeggio sul Mincio.
2. Sigurtà Garden Park
For those who want to spend a day in the open air surrounded by the beauty of nature, the Sigurtà Park, located in Valeggio sul Mincio, is perfect.
The history of this garden is very ancient and it is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Italy and Europe.It is especially worth visiting in the period from March to November, when the blossoming of the park’s numerous flowers will enchant you with spectacular colours. With children, you can visit the park on a little train or by using the bicycles or golf-carts available.
3. Park Jungle Adventure and Rimbalzello Adventure
For those who want to spend a different day than usual with the children full of exercise and adventure, we recommend these two parks, located in the hinterland of Lake Garda.
These are the Park Jungle Adventure in San Zeno di Montagna and the Rimbalzello Adventure in Salò: two parks which, with their aerial routes in the middle of nature, will make you live the experience of climbing among the trees and using lianas, nets, cables and much more to reach the goal. So arm yourself with courage, fun is guaranteed!
4. Parco Natura Viva
One of the best activities to do with children is to visit a Zoo and discover the various species of animals it houses.
The Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo (in the province of Verona) is one of the largest wildlife parks in Italy. It is not a zoo but a real research and protection centre, with many biodiversity conservation projects.
The park has two sections: a wildlife section divided into five macro areas representing the continents with many species, including those at risk of extinction, which can be visited on foot and a safari to admire the animals of the savannah, such as giraffes, hyenas and lions , in your own car.

Beaches and water sports
The activity par excellence when on holiday with children on Lake Garda is bathing and spending a day at the beach. Some suggestions for beaches equipped to welcome even the youngest children are: Baia delle Sirene in Garda, Pisenze beach in Manerba del Garda, Sabbioni beach in Riva del Garda and Lido ai Pioppi in Peschiera del Garda.
But when you feel like trying something new and different, water sports are just what you need. Older children can try windsurfing and sailing in the northernmost part of the lake, where the winds and weather conditions are most suitable.
While, for families with children aged 6 and up who want adventure, Canyoning is perfect, in particular this tour guided by expert instructors.
Experiences in nature
Other activities to do on Lake Garda with children are those in contact with the local nature.
In the beautiful hinterland there are numerous educational farms where activities with animals are organised, showing life in nature and educating children about caring for the environment.
One example, which will please young and old alike, is the Biodynamic Farm Tour and Tasting of Natural Wines at Lazise: a walk through vineyards, vegetable gardens, beehives and animals, with tasting of natural wines paired with a selection of local cured meats and cheeses.
Also at Lazise, you can spend a couple of hours in nature and have a gastronomic experience tasting honey, cheese and local wines with the beekeeping farm tour.
Other experiences to be had in contact with animals are horseback riding or, a more curious alternative, a particular type of trekking on Monte Baldo with Alpacas, friendly animals that will accompany you on your nature walk.
For those more interested in discovering the natural environment, we recommend a visit to the Novezzina Observatory and Botanical Garden, in the municipality of Ferrara di Monte Baldo (Vr).
Sport and outdoor activities
For those who decide to visit Lake Garda with children and wonder if they will find a way to entertain them with outdoor activities, the answer is undoubtedly yes!
For those who love movement, a bike ride in the company of friends is a must, choosing from the many cycle paths in the Garda area.
The best known is the Mincio cycle path, which connects Peschiera del Garda to the magnificent city of Mantua along the banks of the river Mincio. Two other routes that allow you to admire Lake Garda in all its splendour are the Malcesine-Brenzone route and the Garda Cycle Route, which is located in Limone and is suspended over the lake.
In addition, inland or on the shores of Lake Garda, there are many paths suitable for children for a walk in nature and some trekking. Monte Baldo, in particular, is perfect for those who feel like struggling a little more to reach breathtaking viewpoints.
For those who prefer to explore the area comfortably and without too much effort with children, we recommend a nice boat trip on Lake Garda: there are organized tours and numerous boats that connect the different shores of the lake.
Finally, for children who are fascinated by history and culture, we recommend visiting the Scaliger castles of Malcesine, Lazise, Sirmione and Torri del Benaco, the wonderful Peschiera del Garda Fortress, or one of the many museums in the area.
